Fall 2020 Reflection

Image
Fall 2020 Reflection This year, I was placed at Copperfield Elementary school. I had the opportunity to join a double split grade 2 classroom. I have grown so much as a teacher over these past 5 weeks from the experience of working full time in the classroom and was able to incorporate my new knowledge about technology into my lessons. What did you learn or "take-away" from this course and how has your perspective about integrating technology into K to 6 education changed/grown throughout the course? As the world continues to grow into a heavily reliant society in regards to technology, I have realized the importance of teaching students how to use this technology. Without this knowledge, it is almost near impossible to be a functioning member of society. On top of this, technology can be a useful tool while trying to teach other subject areas. From my knowledge I have gained in this class, I was able to incorporate technology into almost every single one of my lessons that I...

Coding for Kids

Scratch Lesson Plan Link to my Lesson Plan I can use this lesson plan in virtually any grade I desire in my future teaching practices. I can require older grades to put in a lot more in depth storylines and actions in Scratch. I can base this activity off of a photo and students could be instructed to create a story line off of that specific photo. I can use this lesson to help students become proficient in Scratch and work towards gaining a deeper understanding of storytelling. I can use Scratch in any subject area to help me teach material, as well as help them develop stronger skills relating to technology.

Sound Walk Lesson

Image
Sound Walk Lesson Link to Lesson Plan I can use this lesson plan to help explain how sounds naturally occur in our world. It allows students to connect on a deeper level with nature and grasp a better understanding of our hearing and sounds. A soundwalk is a great way to help your students unwind and have an opportunity to take a break from the typical classroom setting. This lesson could be changed around into a sensory walk instead of just a sound walk. This would allow students to learn more about all of their senses and the world around them. I will definitely be using this lesson plan in my future teaching practices. As a student, sound walks were one of my favorite activities I participated in during class time.

Calaway Park Virtual Field Trip

Link to Virtual Field Trip Here Virtual field trips can be an effective tool in our future educational practices. We can use this tool to help students explore places around the world and learn about significant historical sites. As many schools don't do out of the country field trips, we can use this to help students get a visual understanding of these places to help deepen their understandings. We can also use it as a map as I did in my virtual field trip. This will get students to understand their way around an area, to better improve their learning before they arrive. This will help them to focus on areas to deepen their learning. For example, I showed the roller-coaster in my virtual tour. If students were to go on this field trip, they would be aware of the mechanisms used to make the rol...

Learning Math through Prodigy

Image
Link to Prodigy Link to Lesson Plan Reflection:       All our peers understood and were capable of learning how to play prodigy and also how to set it up for their own students. This app will be successful in our future teaching practices, as it gives students a fun and novel way of learning mathematics. Often times, students become interested in mathematics at a young age, but peers were eager and showed excitement learning about this website. In the future, if I was to teach this lesson again, I would give more time for peers or students to explore the website and become more proficient at using it. Peers were given a task to answer questions regarding online safety. This is essential while introducing online games to children, as it can become dangerous very quick if they aren't aware of the dangers. Peers were then asked to create their own characters to get them more involved in this process and excited to play Prodigy. Lessons Learned: Mathematics can be fun for our...

Chief Bearspaw School

Stoney Nakoda - Chief Jacob Bearspaw School The Stoney Nakoda consists of 3 separate groups. Today I will be talking about the Chief Bearspaw School which is located on the Eden Valley Reserve. It is important to spread and gain knowledge on Indigenous practices. We can use these in our teaching practices to create an inclusive and safe environment for all, while also educating students on the history of the land we live on today. Meritchell's Twitter

Image
Twitter Link:  https://twitter.com/MeritchellW I can use twitter to stay updated on any new discoveries or information relating to teaching. We can stay closely connected to teachers all around Calgary and create meaningful relationships with others. Lesson planning can become a lot more simple through seeing others ideas and lessons that they have taught in their own classrooms. Twitter can keep us updated on politics relating to education. I can use twitter as my voice and to spread positive outlooks onto others. I could potentially make a positive change in other teachers attitudes through my twitter.
