Fall 2020 Reflection

Fall 2020 Reflection

This year, I was placed at Copperfield Elementary school. I had the opportunity to join a double split grade 2 classroom. I have grown so much as a teacher over these past 5 weeks from the experience of working full time in the classroom and was able to incorporate my new knowledge about technology into my lessons.

What did you learn or "take-away" from this course and how has your perspective about integrating technology into K to 6 education changed/grown throughout the course?

As the world continues to grow into a heavily reliant society in regards to technology, I have realized the importance of teaching students how to use this technology. Without this knowledge, it is almost near impossible to be a functioning member of society. On top of this, technology can be a useful tool while trying to teach other subject areas. From my knowledge I have gained in this class, I was able to incorporate technology into almost every single one of my lessons that I taught through my practicum. This made the learning experiences so much stronger for my students.

How did the course help you answer your "burning" question about the use of digital technologies in K to 6 education?

At the start of the semester, I was hesitant on the incorporation of technology in the classroom. Growing up, I found it became more of a distraction for me, as I wasn't heavily monitored on the computers at school. Now there are so many fun ways for students to learn through online games like prodigy. This allows students to learn, while also having fun doing so. This takes away the possibility for students to get sidetracked playing on different websites. I learned about so many interesting ways to incorporate technology into the classroom.

How did you contribute to the learning of others?

I contributed to the learning of others through teaching other classmates about different websites. I also had an opportunity to teach the students through the use of technology throughout my practicum. During our 2 weeks of isolation, we relied heavily on technology to get through our material for each week. Students had the opportunity to work through RazKids to develop their reading, as we could not do any one on one work. They also had 2 days of working on Prodigy, which I learned about during my time in this class.

What did you learn from others?

I learned a lot from others this semester. I learned many useful websites that I have saved for when I become a teacher or for my future practicums. When we worked on our blog post for an app, I gained many good ideas from peers. I learned how I could effectively bring technology into the classroom without it becoming a distraction.

  1. I absolutely loved this post! I am glad that you got to use different technology resources throughout your practicum! I agree with your take - away from the course, I feel very similar.
