"Engages with colleagues in professional learning"

My goal for this semester is to engage fully and bond with my colleagues at my practicum. I want to learn how to better communicate with the parents of students in my field placement. I have not gained full confidence in talking to other teachers and often follow my mentor teacher, when I could be building deep connections with other members of the faculty. I hope to gain and learn confidence in my practicums. To reach this goal, I hope to go above and beyond with my engagement in different school activities. I will try to include myself in as many after school activities as I can to push my boundaries and comfort levels to push me out of my shell.


Planning for Learning

"Translate outcomes into coherent short, medium, and long range plans"

Facilitating Learning

"Paces lessons appropriately for all students including time for reflection and closure"

I have found through doing past lessons, I accounted for the time that a majority of the students will need to complete the assignments. There are usually a few students that take a bit more time to feel confident in the work that they are handing in. My goal is to make sure every student has the time to complete and be proud of the work they have completed. To ensure this, my goal is to have different activities in place for students who finish earlier to continue their learning. This will give other students time to complete their work, while allowing students who are finished to challenge themselves, instead of wandering aimlessly around the classroom distracting others.


Assessment 

"Creates multiple and varied assessment tools that align with outcomes"

Throughout my junior high and high school experiences, teachers relied heavily on tests and quizzes to test our knowledge on different topics. Me along with many students to this day struggle with test anxiety. This often creates a mental delay in students thinking and ability to show their knowledge. I hope to gain the ability to use different ways of assessing students' knowledge, while also preparing them for the stress of testing. Through this, I hope to create a safe atmosphere for my students to showcase their strengths and pinpoint weaknesses for improvement. I hope to gain knowledge from my professors and mentor teacher on how I can use different forms of assessment for all subject areas.


Exclusive Environment

"Creates and manages effective classroom routines and procedures to promote positive, engaging learning environments"

My goal is to find a routine that will work good with me and my students. I hope for this routine to create a calm and inviting environment for my students. I will feel like I have reached this goal once all students are engaged and start following my routines set out for the students to follow. I hope to create a positive learning space where students respect their own learning, along with others learning as well. I will try to reach this goal through creating a happy and accepting environment for every student. They will all have time to express what they believe will create this atmosphere in the classroom.


Previous Educational Technology Experience

I don’t have much experience with technology. I learned how to be effective with technology in junior high and high school. We often did homework or assignments online. This taught me how to be proficient in google slides and docs. Growing up we used our school computers to do many math and health activities. Kahoot was a website I became quite familiar with and I learned how to create my own Kahoot quizzes. Through doing our past semester online, I became much more confident with technology, as we had to do everything online. I was able to learn a lot more about online teaching and how to be an effective student during this time.


Burning Questions

I am wondering how we keep student’s interest through learning with technology? From past experience and observation, it was hard for the teachers to keep students on track while using technology. Many other websites and media were able to steer students off track, as other websites are easily accessible. At my first year practicum, the teacher set up screen recordings of students' iPads. As a teacher should we have a level of trust with our students or should we closely be monitoring their usage of technology? How can we encourage students to stay on track and complete the tasks at hand?
